Prior to entering the counseling field, Victoria received her BA in English with a minor in Creative Writing from Drew University and spent a decade working for a non-profit arts organization.
How do you collaborate with clients to set goals and measure progress in therapy?
When creating goals together, clients and I identify their painful stuck points as well as inner strengths and outer resources. We envision what it would look like for them to live more freely and wholeheartedly, and set up systems to support them as they take steps in that direction. Along the way, we process and course-correct as needed, tracking where they are finding ease and where they are struggling in different realms of wellness. I believe that healing and progress are non-linear, but that doesn’t mean we have to remain stuck in constant suffering. Every time we move even one inch in the direction of our values, we have cause to celebrate.
What do you hope clients will take away from their experience working with you?
I hope that clients will feel safe and seen, both during our sessions and outside of them. I hope that the work we do together in the room helps them to walk through the world with a little more strength, softness, hope, connection, compassion–and even a little more humor.
Share a little about your personal interests or hobbies outside of therapy, and how they might inform your work with clients.
I love hiking, gardening, going to the rock climbing gym, crafting, reading, and learning guitar. I believe in the healing powers of nature, movement, creativity, and working with our hands. All of these activities become opportunities to ground and center, to process emotions, to learn, to express, and to connect with self and others.
What is your comfort movie/TV show that you can watch over and over again?
I have a few comfort movies/TV shows! Pride and Prejudice, Gilmore Girls, and Heartland are probably my top three.
